What Are Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Medical Benefits?
If you've been injured at work or diagnosed with a work-related illness, you are generally entitled to receive, at no cost to you, all medical treatment which is reasonable, necessary and related to the accepted condition. These medical costs are the responsibility of the employer and its workers' compensation insurance carrier.
Unfortunately, the phrase "reasonable, necessary and related to" leaves the door wide open for workers' compensation insurance providers to dispute medical benefits coverage.
At Wolf, Baldwin & Associates, P.C., we have been working for injured workers in southeast Pennsylvania for more than three decades. We have represented thousands of clients with thousands of different injuries, and have used our combined experience to ensure that our clients get the medical treatment they need to recover. There is almost no type of injury or medical benefits problem we have not encountered. We are here to put our experience to work for you. Rely on us to help you resolve your workers' compensation concerns today.
How Do I Get Medical Treatment if I Do Not Have Insurance?
If a claim has been denied, it may be difficult to obtain medical treatment. Physicians, hospitals and other licensed health care providers in Pennsylvania should provide treatment for work-related injuries regardless of whether the injured worker has health care insurance, but in practice many will require secondary insurance or may refuse to accept workers' compensation injuries. Once a claim is accepted, however, you should never have to make a co-payment or pay any other fee for medical care associated with a work-related injury or illness.
Providers must submit their bills on the proper forms to the workers' compensation insurance carrier who must then pay the health care provider for the services rendered (based upon a fee schedule that changes annually). Otherwise, the insurance carrier must successfully challenge its obligation to provide coverage through a Utilization Review procedure. As a service to medical professionals and to our clients who treat with those professionals, we offer seminars regarding the processes and procedures of medical billing under the PA Workers' Comp Act.
